About me
My name is Jeroen van der Ley,
I started playing bass guitar when I was 17. I was a drummer at the time, but when I heard a recording of Jaco Pastorius, I was captivated by it. Since then I have been sold on the bass guitar.
In 2006 I started studying bass guitar at the Utrecht Conservatory, where I graduated cum laude in 2011. At that time I played in many different line-ups and the focus was mainly on jazz and pop music.
After a trip to Brazil I found a new passion: Latin music. In 2013, I therefore started doing a master's degree in Brazilian and general South American music at Codarts in Rotterdam.
In addition to performing, I have enjoyed giving bass lessons in my home studio in Rotterdam-West for 10 years now. I really enjoy passing on my knowledge to people who are also musically curious and want to develop their skills on the bass.
